Sage Coffee Machine Common Faults

Every appliance and every brand have its own list of common issues their owners may face. In this post, we will discuss three common faults of the Sage coffee machine and give you some evaluation of their complexities. In short, Sage coffee machine common faults are not-frothing, pressure gauge condensing, and low pressure.

The machine is not frothing

Of course, when you want to enjoy a cup of latte, failing to get a rich milk texture is a highly unpleasant experience. Fortunately, the issue is not a serious one. The possible causes here are as follows:

The steam wand is blocked with buildups
The tank steam pressure is affected by the scale

In both cases, you can troubleshoot it yourself. Just clean the steam wand in the first case or descale the tank in the second one.

The pressure gauge is condensing up

Sometimes, the owners of Sage coffee machines have complaints about the pressure gauge starts condensing. Typically, this fault does not affect its brewing functions. However, it may cause some difficulties in having precise control over brewing.

In general, condensing is the result of poor sealing in the gauge. Therefore, the remedy here is to replace the pressure gauge. The task is not for DIY but to entrust to professionals like our skilled and experienced engineers.

Low pressure

To tell the truth, low pressure is the most serious fault among all we mentioned here as it involves extraction problems. In other words, if your Sage produces low pressure, it produces poor brewing or no brewing at all.

Sounds like our solenoid valve has stopped functioning. Is this a faulty part that can be replaced on a call out or is it a return to Sage?

No basket attached, water comes out, basket attached with no coffee, water comes out, put coffee in the portafilter, press the button and no water comes out. Not enough pressure to get through tthe coffee granules?

As soon as I turn on the Sage Barista Express, (after the on light has stopped flashing) the two cup button runs for no reason. The steam wand then does not steam and the pressure gauge does not go up enough to properly extract.

I descaled my Barista Express machine yesterday and now it's producing very sour, undrinkable coffee, even when the pressure gauge shows the pressure is okay.

The biggest known fault of the sage barista express is the screws on the group head working loose. Not accessible other than stripping the machine down. A known fault that sage/ breville will only fix through warranty.

Hello LE Team,

I noticed the wand/steam pressure was weak then the hot water would not work. The adjust on the side for the wand / hot water options seems to be stiffer than usual.

I have ran x2 descale bags through the machine now leaving for 24 hours before fully pulling the solution through the machine, making sure all sections were operated. The 1/2 cup option works fine and has good pressure. The wand / hot water will still not pull through. It actually pulls through the 1/2 option when the wand / hot water option is selected.

My guess is this part of the machine is still blocked. Possibly the descale product I am using is not good enough I bought the 'Super Cal Descaler' from Amazon. Maybe I should have got Sage, could you recommend anything?
