Dishwasher maintenance tips

Indeed, the dishwasher is a highly convenient and hassle-free way to keep your tableware clean. It even may seem your concern ends with purchasing and installing this appliance. Still, while your dishwasher cares about your plates and glasses, do not neglect caring about the appliance.
Here are a few simple maintenance tips that help you keep your dishwasher at its top performance and extend its life.

Prepare tableware you are going to wash

Yes, dishwasher maintenance starts with such a simple task as preparing your tableware for the washing. To clarify, it often happens that there are some food leftovers on the plate or pan. Moreover, depending on eating habits, the amount of them may be significant. And cleaning them off is a must before loading your plates or pans into the appliance. So, always scrape the food leftovers from your utensils.

Why should you really bother yourself with tableware?

Well, first, because, due to excess garbage that gets inside the dishwasher, your plates, cups, glasses, and other utensils may not reach sparkling cleanliness. In other words, you will be displeased with your unit performance and dishwashing results, though, this wouldn’t be the direct fault of the unit.
Second, based on our commercial dishwasher repair experience, we can say every fourth unit breakage is a result of neglecting the garbage-scraping procedure. For example, excess garbage blocks spray arm holes or even as much as spray arms themselves quicker than the average rate. Not mentioning its ability to settle itself in the filters and rotting. If the latter is in case, unpleasant odours are what you get for your dishes.

Do not forget about regular cleaning

Yes, the dishwashing equipment is not something to make working and never clean. To tell the truth, cleaning is a must with every piece of equipment. So, what parts (and how often) to clean in the dishwasher?
Here is a list of items to pay attention to first:
  • Filter (at least once a month)
  • Door seals (at least every three months)
  • Spray arms (at least once a month)
  • Drain (at least every six months)
Note, the frequency we suggest is a frequency under normal use, when you scrape food leftovers bona fide.
Also, descale your appliance at least every three months under normal water harshness. For example, we recommend using specially designed dishwasher cleaners to remove any limescale and mineral deposits.

What else?

If your water is hard, we recommend softening it with special dishwasher salt. This enables you to avoid intensive limescale and all negative effects it can cause.
To conclude, these are the procedures you can easily perform by yourself. However, if you need professional dishwasher maintenance, contact us and arrange a visit of our engineer.

Be ready for the next winter - install a boiler now

Although it is warm July today, it will not last forever. Winter months are inevitable, with their low temperatures to knock on everyone’s door and a chill to conquer everything and everyone. At such cold times, a boiler is your faithful ally to fight against this all-freezing enemy. If you have established the alliance, of course. And, yes, they say, summer is a good time to renew this alliance.

How to understand you need a new boiler

Of course, in most cases, this is not the matter of the new installation. Instead, this is a question of replacing your old boiler with a new one. So, here is a few telltale signs that you need a new heating appliance:

  • Your current unit showed too many malfunctions during the previous heating season
  • Your heating needs have extensively increased
  • Your current unit is too old to meet the efficiency requirement (as a rule, of 10 years and older)
  • Your energy consumption for the same heating needs has been steadily increasing for the last few years
Let’s look closer at the essence of each sign in the list. It is actually true both for residential and commercial boiler installation.
So, if the first bullet point is the case, chances are your current boiler simply will not be able to endure the next winter. With the second bullet point in presence, you are facing the future of living or operating in temperatures lower than normal ones. At last, while not endangering you to spend your next winter in cold premises, two last bullet points mean you are wasting lots of your money on inefficient heating.

How to arrange boiler installation

There is nothing easier than arranging the boiler installation. Simply contact us. Then, we will do the rest for you:
  • Visit your place to check important details, such as your premise size and its heating needs, current and desired boiler location
  • Help you choose a boiler that suits your heating needs at its best
  • Arrange or rearrange an installation scheme if necessary
  • Remove your old unit and install a new one
  • Connect it to gas or electricity, do all the pipework if required
  • Tune and test the system
  • Inform your local authorities and provide you with a Gas-Safe certificate
So, do not wait for winter to come. Do not wait even for autumn to come. Instead, act now while you have time to choose a unit you need and book an engineer visit without haste.
Give us a call or leave your boiler installation request via our website to get ready for the next winter.

Are you opening a new location - we can help!

There are so many things to consider and to do when opening a new location. If you have to fit out the premise from scratch, the scope of work is especially large. To clarify, you need to arrange proper wiring, plumbing, lighting, heating, and air conditioning facilities. Besides, you need to equip your pub with kitchen and bar appliances.
Of course, if the property you chose for this new location had previously hosted any sort of catering business, things could go easier. Still, even in this case, you could face the necessity to rearrange the facilities according to your needs. And don’t forget about equipping the kitchen and bar.
Fortunately, for all these engineering services, you can rely on LE Company. We are one of pub refurbishment companies that can take over complete or partial fit-outs.

Wiring, plumbing, and lighting

To start with, wiring and plumbing are the first things to consider. To clarify, any catering needs electricity and water as a basis for its operation. Note, all cords, tubes, and joins will be hidden under the painting, flooring, and other decorative elements. In other words, you will not be able to access them easily if something goes wrong. Therefore, they must be installed flawlessly. And that is why you need someone of high qualification. That is why you need our help.
To go further, lighting is another task you should entrust to professionals. It is not only about hanging lamps and connecting them to electricity. It is about evaluating the exact lighting needs. Our engineers are great at calculating how many lumens the venue needs. As well as at ensuring proper light dispersing all over the space.
If you need outdoor lighting or decorative illumination, we can help you as well!

Heating and air conditioning

Popular pubs are frequently crowded. And we are sure your new location will win its popularity in a wink. Therefore, you need to ensure its sufficient heating and air conditioning. To clarify, this is necessary to create a healthy and crowd-withstanding environment in the venue. And this is where we can help you a lot.
Our engineers are fully licensed and have a wealth of experience in HVAC system installation. From heating and air conditioning needs assessment. Through system planning and designing. To its construction, fixing, connecting, and commissioning.

Kitchen and bar equipment

We will help you equip your pub. First, we can help you choose equipment to cover your dry and wet sale needs in full. Here is the list of common items you may need:
  • Coffee machines and other beverage equipment
  • Stoves, ovens, and other cooking appliances
  • Cold rooms, fridges, and ice makers
  • Beverage centers and bottle coolers
  • Dishwashers
Then, we structure the equipment and design your kitchen layout. In other words, we will ensure the appliances will perfectly fit your space while meeting all operational requirements. And, of course, we install kitchen and bar equipment. This includes not only water supply, drain, or energy connection but proper leveling and other essentials.
So, get in touch with us to arrange your pub refurbishment.

Make sure it is cold. Fridge maintenance tips

Your fridge works hard to cool your beverages and keep your goods fresh. But do you know you can help it a lot to fulfill its refrigeration duty and stay cool while making just a little effort?
Yes, your simplest maintenance tasks are not to let warm outside air get inside your fridge and prevent cold inside air from getting warm.

Don’t keep the doors open

Sometimes, people open their fridge and freeze in front of it, trying to recall what they want to take. Or, and this is another common case, they leave the doors open while they go for other items to put for cooling. But the worst case is leaving doors open unintentionally overnight or the like. Because in this case, the open-door period is the longest.
In all these cases, the temperature in the refrigerator rises. In other words, it becomes less cold. And there are two reasons for this:
  • Warm outside air gets into the appliance and replaces its cold inside air
  • A fridge light bulb is on and serves as an additional heat source
And, by the way, the longer your fridge stays open, the warmer the outside air gets. And, then, this air slips into your fridge. Well, do you like this scenario? So, do not keep the doors open intentionally longer than you need to take or put an item. And always check the door to make sure it is properly closed.
Sometimes, the light stays on even while the door is closed, so you have a constant heat source inside. This malfunction is especially frequent with commercial refrigeration appliances. This not only spoils groceries but may cause even greater breakdowns. As great as motor failure. Therefore, if you have such an issue with your commercial or residential fridge, you need to fix it as quickly as possible.

By the way, for capital-based grocers or catering businesses, commercial fridge repair in London by LE Company is a quick remedy to resolve the issue.

Keep your fridge door seals clean and intact

The door seals (gaskets) are not only for softening the fridge door impact on its body. They are also to prevent warm outside air from getting inside the fridge. Indeed, there are no perfectly flat surfaces that fit tightly together that leave no chances for warm air.
Thus, to keep your fridge cold, ensure there is no gap between the closed door and the fridge body. So, inspect and clean the gaskets regularly:
  • Every time you open the fridge door, take a quick glance at the gaskets and the body at the place where they get in contact. Make sure they are free of food residues and other debris and wipe them off if any.
  • Once a month inspect the gaskets carefully to make sure they are intact. If you discover any cracks, cuts, or tears, replace the gaskets.

To clarify, food residues, debris create micro gaps that let warm air get inside. So do cracks, cuts, and tears. Besides, some food residues (for example, jam residues) act as glue, and the gaskets may stick to the body and tear when you are opening the door.
And yes, there is one more tip to give: do not put hot food into your fridge.

How to choose an air con for home

Choose the air con type

In general, there are two types of air conditioner popular in the UK, portable air cons and split systems.
A portable unit is the cheapest option. It doesn’t need any installation. So, you may relocate it as often as you need. However, every time you change the unit location, you need to arrange the way how hot air will be vented out of your room. Typically, for this purpose, one connects a hose to the cooling appliance while leaving its other end outdoors.
One of the problems with portable air conditioners is you need to arrange all this the way it prevents hot outdoor air from slipping into your home through a gap you leave for the hose. Another drawback here is the rather poor features of such appliances. And, at last, portable devices are not very energy efficient. In other words, while coming to your home at a lower cost, it will take more money out of your pocket while working there.
In contrast, the initial costs of a split system are much higher. To clarify, you have to pay for the appliance itself plus for its installation. For example, the average prices for air conditioning installation in London are around £1000. However, these higher initial costs may pay off within a year as split systems are more energy-efficient. Besides, a split system typically provides a lot of modes and extra features. For example, you can use it as a dehumidifier and purifier.

Choose the right cooling capacity

As the main purpose of why you buy an aircon is to enjoy lower temperatures, unit cooling capacity is the king. The cooling capacity is measured in BTUs (British Thermal Units), which means how much heat an appliance can vent out of the room per hour.
There are a lot of factors that determine your BTU needs. Here is the list of the most important ones:
  • Size of the room to cool (to calculate it, multiply its square on its height)
  • Number of people that are in the room on average
  • Additional heat sources (personal computers, cooking and refrigeration appliances, etc.)
To be more specific, you can calculate exact cooling capacity by summing up the following bullet points:
  • 180 BTUs per each cubic metre of the room
  • Additional 500 BTUs per each person in the room
  • Additional 345 BTUs per each 100 watts other devices in the room consume
If you find it difficult to get the exact energy consumption of all the appliances you have got in the room you want to cool, take, on average, additional 500 BTUs per each device. Moreover, take into account the specifics of your room sun-facing. To clarify, add 10 percent to the total BTUs if it is sunny or deduct 10 percent if it is shaded during most of the day.

Instead of conclusion

Yes, you may reach your desired versatility and cooling effect on the two steps we mentioned before. But try to think deeper in the case (and, thus, think ahead). For example, modes you need. And, of course, consider the energy efficiency factor. To clarify, there are a lot of inverter split systems on the market that are ultra-energy efficient. While their prices can be slightly higher than average, they are more eco- and budget-friendly when in use.

Restaurants reopening: how to get your fridge ready

No one can deny how crucial a well-functioning fridge is for the catering business. It cools beverages. It stores groceries and keeps them fresh for a longer time. Definitely, as soon as your restaurant starts operating, your fridge will never stay empty and without refrigeration duties to perform. And you need to be sure it will perform its duties at its best.

That is why you should bring your fridge to its top before reopening your restaurant.

Fridge’s overall health

Fridge’s overall health is not only about whether it works or not. It is about how well (read as “how efficiently”) it is running now and how well it will run in the near future. Therefore, when preparing your refrigeration appliance for intensive use, consider the following aspects:
  • It cools sufficiently and maintains the required temperatures and humidity for each its section
  • It works efficiently and consumes as much electricity as it should
  • There is no risk of its breakage in the near future
Thus, when getting your fridge ready, you need to pay attention to the following components:
  • Door seals (they shouldn’t be worn or cracked)
  • Electronics (it should keep the modes sufficiently)
  • Refrigerant level and leakproofness (the level should be sufficient and any leaks are fixed)
  • Motor, coils, and other spare parts (check their condition and integrity, keep them clean)
If you need any help with getting your fridge ready, ask for the commercial fridge repair service we provide.

Fridge inside cleaning

Inside cleaning should always be an essential part of fridge maintenance. To clarify, groceries absorb other smells very easily. And these foreign smells never do them good. Besides, fridge cleaning always has a sanitizing purpose as the sanity check requires.
So, even if you thoroughly wash your fridges before mothballing, even if you mothball them with open doors, cleaning is still necessary to refresh the air inside the appliances and get rid of bacteria. But if something of this was neglected, deep cleaning and airing are musts.
Contact us to provide your fridge with professional servicing. We will help you get it ready to store your groceries and beverages sufficiently and efficiently.

Cafes reopening: get your appliances ready

The heart of any café is its kitchen. And you should make sure your café heart is ready to meet your customers’ demand in full. In other words, you should prepare your appliances for working flawlessly and delivering their best results.

Cooking appliances

When your customers come for breakfast or lunch, they want not only to satisfy their hunger. They want to enjoy the meal you serve them with. But do you know the operational state of your cooking appliances as important as your chef skills?
So, get your ovens, stoves, ranges, or cooktops ready to operate at their best. In other words, bring them to their top performances. Here are some tasks to perform:
  • Thorough cleaning of insides and exteriors
  • Gas safety checks
  • Overall appliance health check and faulty spare parts replacement
While your personnel can handle cleaning on their own, gas safety checks and thorough maintenance must be performed by professionals. For this, contact LE Company, one of the most reliable engineering companies in London.

Refrigeration appliances

There is no need to say how crucial it is to have well-functioning refrigeration facilities. However, the matter is much deeper than just keeping groceries fresh and cool. It is about not overpaying for the electricity you use for your refrigeration needs.
So, get your ice makers, fridges, freezers, and beverage centers ready for your café reopening. Some tasks to perform here are as follows:
  • Deep cleaning and sanitizing to get rid of any bad odours and bacteria
  • Thorough maintenance and preventative repairs if necessary
And again, for this, you can fully rely on our help.

Air conditioning and ventilation

Though we put this aspect somewhere close to the end of this post, sufficient air conditioning and ventilation are the number one in creating the right environment. To clarify, when they enter your café, the first thing they can evaluate is the air freshness degree. In other words, even if you offer food and beverages of fantastic taste but your air is stuffy or full of unpleasant cooking odours, it would be hard to get the customers’ loyalty. Besides, dirty or malfunctioning air conditioning and ventilation systems affect your electricity bills.
Therefore, get your air conditioners and ventilation system ready to cool air and extract unpleasant cooking odours efficiently. Some tasks to perform here are as follows:
  • Clean all the filters and ducts
  • Check and refill refrigerants
  • Service the appliances and troubleshoot them if necessary
Be sure our engineers are trained, skilled, and fully licensed to handle all these tasks. So, give us a call to arrange efficient servicing for your cooking, refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilation, and other café appliances.

Restaurants reopening: how to get your Rational oven ready

Click hereIt is great to see your restaurant open and operating. And we all were desperately awaiting this event during this long and tiresome pandemic lockdown. But is your Rational ready for ongoing cooking, backing, and grilling?

Read further to know how to prepare your Rational oven to use after a long break.
to edit.

Provide your Rational with overall check and maintenance

First, check the oven connection to the power and gas supply as well as the condition of the related elements. Second, as the Rational combi oven is a sort of steam oven, it has water and drain connections. Therefore, check the condition and attachment of water and drainage lines.
Then, service your equipment. One of the tasks here are as follows:
  • Replace the air filter to ensure extra freshness for the dishes you will cook
  • Check cooking cabinet light and replace the halogen lamp if necessary
  • Check the door seal and replace it if necessary
  • Test all the cooking modes
At last, if you moved the appliance while mothballing or de-mothballing, check its levelling and adjust it if necessary.
Note, any maintenance task should be performed only by a qualified person. So, if you don’t have such a person on your board, turn to London Engineers Company. We provide the best Rational oven service in Great London, Berkshire, Hampshire, Surrey, and Windsor.

Undertake thorough cleaning

First, clean the cooking cabinet. If you stored the oven with closed doors, open them for a few hours to let fresh air in. Then, apply detergent and enable CleanJet®+care, a grand self-cleaning mode the appliance is equipped with. After the self-cleaning cycle ends, do not forget to rinse the cooking cabinet with water to remove detergent residues.
Second, descale the steam generator and humidifying nozzles. We recommend undertaking the procedure after such a long break. Even if your Rational does not show the "CalcCheck" on its display. To clarify, during the break, the steam generator and humidifying nozzles might accumulate some dust, which you will remove when descaling. Besides, if you forget to descale them when preparing your Rational for storage, this is high time to do it right now.

At last, clean the oven exterior and glass windows to restore the nice appearance of the appliance.

How to look after your La Cornue

Definitely, you expect your La Cornue to look grand and serve you well for years. And this is what it actually does. Of course, conditional to proper care on your part. In this post, we will guide you on how to look after your La Cornue and the simplest procedures you can handle on your own.

General advice

Here are some general tips on how to arrange proper care for your La Cornue. One of the main rules here is to undertake cleaning procedures regularly. Other rules affect the appliance integrity and even your safety during these procedures. They include:
  • The necessity to wipe up spills and others of the kind immediately after they happen to prevent suborn stains
  • The taboo on mixing up different detergents and other cleaning products to avoid their adverse interaction
  • The taboo on using caustic and chlorine-based cleaners and abrasive sponges or cleaners, including washing soda
  • The recommendation to cool the appliance before any deep-cleaning tasks to avoid burning yourself with hot surfaces
Note, while you can undertake some simple every-day and every-week cleaning tasks, you may need professional help with maintenance tasks. At LE Company, we provide a high quality La Cornue repair service and will be happy to take over its maintenance and deep cleaning.

Clean La Cornue exterior

Of course, the first thing you and your guests pay attention to is how your kitchen looks. To clarify, even an expensive appliance has a poor appearance and looks cheap and nasty when dirty. Therefore, you should clean your La Cornue exterior to keep its gorgeous appearance on the top.
Here are some tips on how to clean specific parts of your kitchen exterior:
  • Clean the control panels with soft soap diluted in warm water
  • Remove dust, and slight stains from sides, plinths, and doors, wipe them with a mild detergent or soft soap diluted in hot water
  • If there are stubborn stains on them, use special liquid detergent for stubborn stains removal for enameled or painted surfaces and white spirit for stainless steel inserts
  • Clean and polish decorative copper or brass inserts, wipe them, respectively, with copper cleaning detergent or brass polish product, using a soft close so as not to make any scratches
  • To clean door glasses, glass lids, and splashbacks, use soft soap or a mild detergent diluted in hot water or cream cleaner

Clean La Cornue cooking elements

When it comes to cleaning La Cornue cooking elements, it comes to such parts as an oven and grill, hobs or hob plates, and, of course, cooktop burners for gas kitchens.

Oven and grill

Though this grand kitchen is equipped with a self-cleaning mode, we recommend always wipe up the stains that occur during your baking and grilling. Therefore, regularly clean the inside oven walls with soft soap, dishwasher detergent, or any other cleaner that is harmless for the enamel surface. Besides, for chrome shelves and handyrack, use dishwasher detergent or any cleaner that is harmless for chrome. If there are stubborn stains, use a nylon scourer to remove them.

Hobs and hob plates

One of the elements that are often in use and, thus, often gets dirty is a hob or hob plate. To clean your ceramic or induction hobs, use soft soapy for everyday care and cream cleaner for weekly care. For enamel or steel hob tops, you can need a nylon scourer to remove stubborn stains. In all other cases, a mild detergent or soft soap, diluted in hot water is enough.
If your kitchen has an electric hob plate, food debris and spills often stick to it. In this case, remove this stuck debris and spills with a well-soaped steel wool pad. On the contrary, the griddle plate has a non-stick surface. However, do not forget to wipe up all spills with diluted soft soap or dishwasher detergent.

Cooktop burners

If your kitchen is gas-fueled, you also need to clean the cooktop burners at least once a month or two. This not only returns to them their initial nice looks but enables you to keep its performance at its best. Not to mention reducing the fire hazards. For regular domestic cleaning, you can use a solution of water mixed with white vinegar.

What is Regular Appliance Maintenance

Regular appliance maintenance is a number of care tasks arranged in a constant manner. Typically, when speaking about regularity we speak about specified and equally scheduled intervals.
So, what are these tasks when it comes to the kitchen, cooling, and heating appliances? In short, these are daily, weekly, monthly, and annual tasks. Read further to know more.

Daily and weekly maintenance

As it comes from the names, daily maintenance is what you should undertake for an appliance every day. Typically, here, we are talking about cleaning after usage procedures. Weekly care is the tasks you should undertake at least once a week. For example, this can be as follows:
  • Wipe up spilled food from your stove, oven, or cooker every time it gets dirty
  • Clean a portafilter, steamer arm, and drip tray of your coffee machine every time you drew coffee
  • Wipe up food scraps (if any) from your dishwasher and leave its door open after the cycle
  • Clean your dishwasher filter from food scraps with a brush
  • Check your fridge temperature and correct it if necessary

Monthly maintenance

Monthly maintenance refers to the activities to perform every month or two. For complicated commercial equipment, you need professional help. Just like you need it with installation and repair. And in all these cases, you may count on LE Company. For example, we can help you with cold room installation and repair or provide its professional maintenance.
Still, for other appliances, you can do it yourself. Here, your activities may include:
  • Replace or clean filter in your aircon
  • Run a deep cleaning cycle for your oven
  • Wipe your fridge shelves with soapy water and clear your fridge drain holes
  • Inspect and clean door seals and handles of your oven, fridge, or dishwasher with soapy water
  • Descale your coffee machine water tank and your dishwasher with special cleaners
  • Check your boiler burner and diffuser for cracks and the whole boiler for build-ups

Annual maintenance

Annual maintenance implies deep cleaning, inspection, and assessment to undertake at least once a year. As a rule, it is about professional servicing tasks as it often requires professional tools and equipment. Some tasks here are as follows:
  • Clean your fridge motor fan and condenser coils
  • Check carbon level for each gas appliance
  • Check the refrigerant level in your aircon and refill it if necessary
  • Inspect and clean all essential elements of your boiler and air conditioner and test the performance of each appliance
  • Inspect all wiring, hoses, connections, and electrical controls for all kitchen and HVAC appliances

Restaurants reopening: how to get your dishwasher ready

The dishwashers are an indispensable assistant that helps you serve your customers to the highest standards. And when you reopen your restaurant after pandemic downtime, this appliance will turn to a hard-working bee, producing clean tableware in large quantities. So, you need to make sure it is able to fulfill its duties and withstand the loads.
If you correctly prepared your dishwasher to mothball, you would have little to no issues with putting it in use again. But even then, there are some steps you should not ignore.

Step 1. Check electrical and plumbing connection

Here, the matter splits into a few parts. First, it is the question of power, water, and drain connections. Typically, dishwashers are fully disconnected before long-term storage. Therefore, you need to plug the appliance into a power outlet and connect it to a shut-off water valve and a drain pipe.
Second, it is the question of cord, water supply and drain hoses condition. To clarify, often plumbing washers get smooshed. Besides, long-term non-use and improper storage may result in hose cracks and breaks and, thus, leaks. Moreover, improperly drained hoses may get unpleasant odours and even get moldy during storage. In both cases, you need to turn to a professional commercial dishwasher repairs service that will fix the issue before you reopen your restaurant.

Step 2. Arrange deep cleaning for your dishwasher

In general, a thorough cleaning is what you need to do when preparing your dishwasher for long-term storage. However, before you start using it again, it is worth completing deep cleaning once again. To clarify, the musty smell inside the appliance is not an uncommon mothball effect. The smell is especially strong if you miss some food debris when mothballing the machine.
Dishwasher deep cleaning aims to get rid of these unpleasant odours and covers the following parts:
  • Dishwasher cavity
  • Filter and drain
  • Door gaskets

Step 3. Assess the overall dishwasher condition

In other words, check all the spare parts that commonly break down and test all the modes your dishwasher operates in. Such assessment enables you to identify how well the equipment performs and what malfunctions may occur when working intensively.
Then, replace all the faulty parts and complete all required dishwasher repairs before you open your doors to the first customers. Definitely, this is a more cost-effective solution than repairing your machine when your restaurant is full of guests who await being served.
If you need professional help, contact us and get your dishwasher ready to work at its highest performance.

Restaurant’s reopening: how to get your coffee machine ready

For more than a year, your coffee machine has been out of use because of the pandemic. Fortunately, now you are reopening your restaurant and this means your latte or cappuccino maker will soon be in intensive use again. In turn, this means you need to get the appliance ready for use. To clarify, the preparation includes pre-use maintenance and safety examination and ensures the following aspects:
  • The appliance is capable of brewing the drink of great taste
  • Its operation is fully safe for your staff and customers

Undertake pre-use maintenance

First, the equipment that is not in use for a long time is mothballed. Typically, this means it is unplugged and even partially disassembled. In case of a coffee machine, you generally disassemble its group heads, handles, and filters. So, the first preparation step here is to assemble the equipment and plug it into a socket.
Second, assess the equipment’s health state. The assessment reveals worn spare parts or other faults that may grow into the issues in the most inappropriate time. Thus, if something in your coffee machine may potentially need repairs in near future, it is better to repair it now.
Third, clean the machine. This way, you will get rid of all residues and scales that may spoil the beverage flavour. Here, the task includes:
  • Descaling the water tank
  • Backflushing the group heads
  • Rinsing the steam arm and pipes
To ensure the best coffee machine service, turn to professionals. This way you will get your coffee machine fully cleaned, checked, and repaired if necessary.
At last, prepare cups for use. In other words, wash them and put them in their right places – on the top of the machine.

Undertake pre-use safety examination

According to the Pressure System Safety Regulation 2000, all pressure systems must undergo safety examinations regularly. Besides, if the system was out of use for a long time, its pre-use examination is a must. Your commercial coffee machine generates steam and, thus, belongs to the pressure systems. Therefore, in accordance with the PSSR 2000, you shall undertake a pre-use safety examination for your latte or cappuccino maker.
Note, only a certified competent person can carry out the safety examination with subsequent drawing a written report. So, if you have such a person on your board, make sure he did not forget to inspect the appliance. However, in case you lack an in-house competent person, arrange a visit of an independent one.

At LE Company, we are sufficiently trained and certified to carry out your pre-use coffee machine maintenance and safety examination. So, contact us to schedule a visit of our engineer.

How much does it cost to charge an electric car

In short, the EV charging costs significantly vary depending on the EV battery capacity and a charging scheme. To clarify, in this post, a charging scheme implies choosing one of two options: either home or public charging. So, here, we do not consider a workplace scheme as the costs here may differ depending on the employer policy but are unlikely to be higher than with a home or public scheme.
Also, as the battery size also affect the costs, in this post, we calculate examples for the most popular electric car makes and models. These electric cars have different battery sizes and, thus, can help you to get a clear vision of the full picture.
The vehicles we consider in our examples include both battery electric cars and plug-in hybrids (in brackets – usable battery capacity):
  • BMV 530E (9.2 kW)
  • Outlander PHEV (11 kW)
  • Nissan Leaf (36 kW)
  • BMW i3 (38 kW)
  • Renault Zoe (52 kW)
  • Tesla Model S (95 kW)

Home charging costs

Typically, home charging expenses are the most common ones. Because it is very convenient to feed one’s car when one is at home. To clarify, one doesn’t have to distract oneself from home tasks or just home relaxing in order to top up the battery. Moreover, when you get an installation of an EV charger, you can even sleep while feeding your car.
So, to start with, how much you will need to pay for charging your car depends not only on your EV battery size but on the electricity rates you have to deal with. To be more specific, let’s take the average UK rates and calculate charging costs with differentiated and non-differentiated tariffs.

Charging costs with differentiated rates

Let’s suppose you have a differentiated tariff and pay £0.2 per kWh at the daytime or £0.1 per kWh at night. Though these rates are average and may not match your exact ones, you can apply your own rate proportions and use the figures we provide to do your numbers.
So, with charging in peak periods, your costs for the following cars would be:
  • BMV 530E – £1.8
  • Outlander PHEV – £2.2
  • Nissan Leaf – £7.2
  • BMW i3 – £7.6
  • Renault Zoe – £10.4
  • Tesla Model S – £19.0
In contrast, with overnight charging, your costs for the following cars would be:
  • BMV 530E – £0.9
  • Outlander PHEV – £1.1
  • Nissan Leaf – £3.6
  • BMW i3 – £3.8
  • Renault Zoe – £5.2
  • Tesla Model S – £9.5
So, as you can see, filling up the battery at night is more economical than doing it during the day. That’s why for those who have a differentiated tariff overnight EV charging is standard practice.

Charging costs with non-differentiated rates

Let’s suppose you have a non-differentiated tariff and pay £0.16 per kWh regardless of at what time you charge your car. In this case, your expenses for one session (providing you fill the battery in full) would be as follows:
  • BMV 530E – £1.5
  • Outlander PHEV – £1.8
  • Nissan Leaf – £5.8
  • BMW i3 – £6.1
  • Renault Zoe – £8.3
  • Tesla Model S – £15.2
So, as with a non-differentiated tariff your EV charging expenses don’t differ, you can not bother with catching the best time for the session.
Note, we provide numbers conditional to a well-functioning EV charger. However, if it becomes faulty you may experience certain electricity transmission losses. In this case, the costs may be higher. That is why we recommend track your session costs and do not delay if you need an EV charging station repair.

Public charging costs

Here, we do not take into consideration free charging facilities. Instead, we consider only the public EV charging points that are based on the payment system. Different networks have different rates. So, for our example, we took £0.3 per kWh as the most common price in the UK.
Here are the prices to fill in an EV battery for the following electric cars
  • BMV 530E – £2.8
  • Outlander PHEV – £13.3
  • Nissan Leaf – £10.8
  • BMW i3 – £11.4
  • Renault Zoe – £15.6
  • Tesla Model S – £28.5
As you can see, public charging costs are more than one and a half times higher than when charging at home at peak periods or with a non-differentiated tariff. Moreover, it is thrice higher than for an overnight session with a differentiated tariff.

Charging costs per 100 miles

While it could be highly interesting how much it costs to fill in a battery in full, it is more important to know how much you need to pay per 100 miles. Therefore, we calculated these numbers as well for all the aforementioned models both for home and public charging options. The results are provided in the following sequence with a slash as a divider:
  • Home daytime session with a differentiated tariff
  • Home overnight session a with differentiated tariff
  • Home session with a non-differentiated tariff
  • Session at public point
So, the charging costs per 100 miles are as follows:
  • BMV 530E – £8.76 / £4.38 / £7.01 / £13.05
  • Outlander PHEV – £9.57 / £4.78 / £7,65 / £14.25
  • Nissan Leaf – £5.33 / £2.66 / £4.27 / £7.95
  • BMW i3 – £5.24 / £2.62 / £4.19 / £7.8
  • Renault Zoe – £5.2 / £ 2.6/ £4.16 / £7.8
  • Tesla Model S – £5.85 / £2.92 / £4.67 / £8.7
To conclude, based on these numbers, we can say the plug-in hybrids are the most thriftless vehicles. The cost per 100 miles here is almost twice higher in comparison to fully electric vehicles. Also, benchmarking battery electric vehicles shows Renault Zoe to be the most economical and Tesla Model S to be the less economical of the cars in our list.

EV charging: how long it takes

To feed your electric car, you can use slow, fast, and even rapid charging solutions. As you may guess by their name, these solutions differ in the time they take to top up your EV battery in full. So, what charging session duration can be with different EVSE types? Read further to get a detailed answer to this question.
How long does it take to charge an electric vehicle

Slow charging

Slow charging is about equipment that provides no more than 7 kWh. Typically, in the UK, you may come across such options as:

  • 2.3kWh stations
  • 3,7 kWh facilities
  • 4-5kWh facilities

As a rule, electric cars have a couple of wires types for AC charging. The first cable (type 2) is used to plug your vehicle when you are at the station. The second option with a regular plug serves for home charging when you can use an ordinary wall socket.
It is better not to use 3-pin charging every day. If you are a busy person, this charger won’t suit you as it requires very long time to fill the battery. Moreover, using this method, you cause a heavy load on your domestic electrical networks. In this case, it won’t serve you for long. However, this particular charging method is highly helpful if you are far from any station but need to charge your electric vehicle.
Depending on your car make and model, it may take 16 – 20 hours and longer to top up its battery when using 2.3kWh facilities. Using 3kWh facilities is a bit faster, 10 – 12 hours on average. To be more specific, we calculated charging time for popular makes and models with 2.3kWh / 3,7 kWh facilities:
  • Volkswagen e-Golf – 16h30m / 10h15m
  • Nissan Leaf – 18h30m / 11h30m
  • BMW i3 – 19h30m / 12h15m
  • Renault Zoe – 26h45m / 16h45m

However, if you plan to feed Tesla Model S with such EVSE, you will need up to two days to fill its battery in full. Note, if you have only slow charging EVSE but want to install an EV charger of greater efficiency, you may always count on us.

Fast charging

EV fast charging stations provide about 7-22 kWh. Such a solution is common for homes. This type of charging has several advantages. First, you can use it only at night and you will still enough time to charge your electric car. Secondly, if you have a special tariff Economy 7, you can enjoy the lower EV charging cost.

No doubt, this way of charging is more efficient than a 3-pin one. In comparison to the former, their slowest modes are much faster than a 3-contact plug. The difference may only increase as you use the equipment of larger power output.

Still, for cars with low power input, this increase is a myth. Good examples here are Nissan Leaf and Volkswagen e-Golf that can accept no more than 6.6 kWh and 7.2 kWh respectively. So, there is no need to use 22 kWh equipment as the time that you spend for charging is equal. Here, we present a few examples of how long fast charging session takes for the most popular electric cars:

  • Volkswagen e-Golf – 5h15m
  • Nissan Leaf – 6h30m
  • BMW i3 – 6h15m (with a 7-kWh station) / 4h15m (with an 11-kWh or 22-kWh station)
  • Renault Zoe – 8h30m (with a 7-kWh station) / 5h45m (with an 11-kWh station) / 3 hours (with a 22-kWh station)
With fast EVSE, you can charge even your Tesla more efficiently. The session here lasts 15 hours if you use a 7-kWh station or only 7 hours if you use a 22-kWh station By the way, as a rule, fast charging stations are more reliable and serve you longer. Still, if you have any issues with your station or want to upgrade it, we can help you. Just request an EV charger repair service.

Rapid charging

The main feature of the rapid charging solution is that it typically deals with direct current. This makes it more powerful in comparison to previous options. In other words, it is the fastest charging facility.
Rapid EV solutions can be of different power outputs. The most common option provides the power of 50 kWh. But it also possible to find supercharges with a 120-150 kWh output, like Tesla. Some of the stations provide EV of 175 kWh output. However, there are not many of them as not that many electric cars support them. In other words, the major part of the electric vehicle, except Tesla, doesn’t require more than 50 kWh. Thus, this output is sufficient for almost all the car models with rapid charging capabilities:

  • Volkswagen e-Golf – 36 min
  • Nissan Leaf – 40 min
  • BMW i3 – 36 min
  • Renault Zoe – 56 min

However, a 50-kWh facility takes about two hours and a half to top up the Tesla model S battery in full. Still, if you use a 150-kWh supercharger, you the session lasts just about an hour.

To sum up, the charging session duration is the longest with slow charging facilities and the shortest with rapid charging ones. It may vary from more than 26 hours to only 36 minutes. Of course, the exact duration also depends on such factors as your EV battery capacity and power input limits of your car. However, the general conclusion is the following:
  • Fast charging takes twice or thrice less time if compared to slow charging
  • Rapid charging reduces the session duration by 8-9 times if compared to fast charging and by 25-30 times if compared to slow charging

How to choose a home EV charger

Without having a home EV charger, using your electric car may involve too many hassles to enjoy your EV experience. But how to choose the one that is right for you? Here are five questions to make your confident decision.

1. How much is the charge power of your vehicle?

EV chargers differ in their output amperage, which varies from 3.2 kW to 22 kW and over. As a rule, the higher amperage the unit has, the faster it can fill up a battery. Therefore, if your vehicle has a 22-kW charge port, a 22-kW EV charger is your fastest option. However, if your car can receive only 3.6 kW, a 22-kW station will not charge it faster than a 7-kW one.

2. How many electric vehicles do you have?

The number of electric vehicles you have may determine how many ports you need. For example, if you have just one car, why should you overpay for a 2-port one? However, if you have two vehicles to charge simultaneously, a 2-port unit is exactly what you need.

3. How much is the capacity of your existing electrical service panel?

A service panel capacity may pose certain restrictions on the charge point power you are going to exploit. For example, if you have a 100-Amp service panel, installation of a 63-kW station is impossible.

Fortunately, you can always request a charge point service in LE Company, which may include upgrading your current service panel.

4. What are the features you expect from your EV charger?

There are a great variety of features, which affects both the convenience of use and the price. Here we listed the most important ones:
  • Cable tether and length
  • Installation location
  • Mounting method
  • Smart features
While these features are optional, the safety is one that is a must. So, always pay close attention to its protection degree. I should be of at least IP55.

5. What is your budget?

Charge points differ in manufacturers, features... and their prices. In general, units of higher amperage are more expensive. The same is true for rich-featured devices. So, if you are on a tight budget, such stations may not be affordable for you.

To conclude, we have one more tip to add. When choosing the station, keep your future needs in mind as well.

Launching. Assessment. Service

At last, lockdown is getting over! Café and restaurants are launching, inviting their customers to enjoy their cuisine and atmosphere. At last, your kitchen will be full of life and a pleasant rush. And, at last, its equipment will be busy with cooking, frying, baking, brewing coffee. But are you sure your equipment performance is as good as it was before lockdown? That is why proper assessment and servicing is recommended.

Assess and service your coffee machine equipment

Even if during lockdown you didn’t use your coffee machine equipment, it still requires servicing. For example, at downtime, scale and build-ups may still form due to natural oxidation processes or improper appliance conservation. These scale and build-ups will make your coffee bitter and sour. In other words, they spoil its flavour. As a result, you may lose your customers as true coffee connoisseurs never forgive bitter and sour tastes.
Therefore, we recommend you undertake professional coffee machine maintenance prior to launching your café or restaurant. We will assess its overall condition and descale it carefully.
Thus, you can be sure your coffee machine will successfully endure the heaviest coffee order flow. Moreover, you can be sure no scales and build-ups will spoil the flavour of the coffee you brew. In other words, your customers will enjoy the beverages you serve and stay loyal to your café or restaurant as much as before. Of course, if your barista is still skilled and great.

Assess and service your cooking equipment

Ovens are another hard-working bee in your kitchen. That is to say, your business greatly depends on them. And you need to be sure you wouldn’t suffer any disruption due to the issues with your cooking equipment.
Fortunately, you can prevent any possibility of such disruption easily. Just arrange oven repairing and servicing in advance.

Common after-lockdown issues

Based on the call-outs we’ve got for after-lockdown servicing, we made a list of common issues the owners experience with their cooking appliances:
  • Cracked door gaskets. This may happen either as a result of natural gasket aging or because of improper storage. In turn, cracked gaskets allow some heat to go outside. In other words, the inside heat becomes insufficient and cooking time gets longer. (Unfortunately, cracked gaskets occur even with the strongest brands. For example, we had such a task for Rational oven repairing).
  • Bad odors inside the oven due to its improper conservation. For example, often personnel neglects deep professional cleaning for the appliance. Therefore, fat build-ups and food residue remain here all the time. And so is the bad smell as well. Getting even worse over time. This may result in a bad odour getting into the food and spoiling its taste.
  • Faulty igniters. Yes, prolonged appliance non-use may result even in this. And once and again, this often happens due to improper previous oven maintenance. For example, when the igniter wasn’t cleaned sufficiently. To clarify, when the igniter remains in no use, the dirt build ups and gets stacked. Thus, only deep professional cleaning or replacement may bring your oven up and running.
So, contact us if you want to arrange a proper assessment, repairing, or servicing for your coffee machine and cooking equipment.

How to choose a commercial EV charging station

The future is firmly associated with electric vehicles. Therefore, you may feel the necessity to adapt your business to this future by installing an EV station at your spot.
However, it would be not wise to purchase the first found one. In contrast, as this charging facility is to add more value to your business, you need to choose the one that will do it the best. Here, we present three questions that help you choose an EV charging point that suits your business needs.

1. Who will be its end users?

Here, you get a vision of what unit you need both regarding the AC/DC type and its power output. To be more specific, you need to have a clear idea about two things:
  • What cars they drive
  • How long they typically stay at your place
For example, let’s discuss three different cases to give you more understanding of your options.

For your employees

First, if you purchase an EV charger for your personnel, you will unlikely need any rapid DC facilities. In other words, even an AC unit of 7 kWh may be enough to top up their batteries during their working hours. However, if the electric fleet is a large-battery one, you’d better turn your head to more powerful EV charging points.

For your customers

Second, if you purchase an EV charger to attract more customers, you still don’t need a DC unit. However, a 7-kWh station may be too weak to satisfy the needs of your customers. For example, if you own a café near a highway, the average time the customer spends at your place may be only half an hour. Thus, a 7-kWh appliance can’t prepare their EVs for further trips. Yes, sometimes you can request a charge point service and upgrade your existing device. But this can be done not with any unit.

For the EV charging business

Third, if you open an EV charging business, you need to have a clear idea of what your targeted audience is. For example, if you target the owners of middle-powered cars, you may consider 11 or 22-kWh AC units. In contrast, if you also target the owners of more powerful vehicles such as Tesla or Porshe Taycan, you may need a DC station.

2. How many electric vehicles do you plan to charge simultaneously?

Here, you determine the number of cables or ports the station should be equipped with. As well as the number of stations you need. For example, one 2-cable unit is exactly what you need in the following cases:
  • you plan to use the appliance at your workplace and have just a few employees with electric cars
  • the number of customers’ EVs you usually have at your spot at the same moment rarely exceeds two cars
However, this question goes even further and touches your company policy. For example, you can install one 2-cable unit of 11-kWh and schedule your employee charging session. Or, if you plan to use the station as a free EV charging facility for your customers, you may deem it appropriate to cover only 30-50% of their EV charging needs.

3. What is your budget?

Definitely, a budget not only matters but may affect the answer you give to the previous question. Moreover, knowing the budget, you can answer the following questions:
  • How many and of what brand and features EV chargers can you afford to purchase?
  • Can you arrange the required electrical capacity to install as many units as you need?

Instead of conclusion

Now, it comes to other things to consider. In other words, it is about some must-have features of a commercial EV charger. We recommend you to choose stations with:
  • Tethered cables with different connectors if you use it for your customers cover all possible EV charging ports
  • 7-8-m long cables to make EV charging possible at some distance in case the place right near the station is already occupied
  • Smart control features to monitor and manage current consumption.

Why it is important to clean your air con

Your air conditioner is designed to cool your indoor air, keeping it fresh and healthy. But when the unit gets dirty, its ability to perform this becomes greatly reduced.
To be specific, there are, at least, two major reasons why it is necessary to clean your cooling system regularly:
  • You need healthy air in your rooms;
  • You don’t want to overpay for air conditioning.
Fortunately, LE Company can help with air con cleaning and take all the negative effects of a dirty cooling system away.

Healthy air

The indoor air contains more dust than the outdoor one. Moreover, a unit with dirt or mold build-ups blows particles of these build-ups in as well. Thus, you get even more dust on your lungs, which negatively affects your health.
During the pandemic time, air quality becomes even more crucial. To clarify, healthy air helps to strengthen immunity. On the contrary, a bad one lowers it. Dust accumulated in a cooling system is a good ground for bacteria and virus multiplication. Then, the system blows it into the air, and you have to breathe it in.
Removing dust from the system and sanitizing it, you ruin this ground.

Efficiency at its best

Air con efficiency is its ability to provide comfort balanced with the cost to reach this target. In other words, this is about how well the unit performs and how much energy it consumes.

Performance

Evaporator and condenser coils with dirt build-ups are one of the main causes of poor performance. First, the dirt on the evaporator coil reduces its power to absorb the heat from the air. Second, dirt on the condenser coil decreases its power to transfer heat outside.
So, cleaning evaporator and condenser coils enables to maintain both indoor and outdoor unit performances at their best level even on the most scorching days.

Energy consumption

There are two ways for a cooling system to achieve the required indoor temperature. First, work at its best performance and, thus, take a minimal time. Or, if failing to reach a good performance, work harder and longer and, thus, still get the temperature down.
As an uncleaned unit has lower performance, it has to work longer. That is to say, it consumes more energy to cool your room. As a result, you have higher energy bills to pay. Therefore, regular air con cleaning helps you avoid excessive energy consumption and, thus, save money on your energy bills.

To chill or not to chill: Fridge issue story

This post is not a guide that you can use in case of the emergency or other occasions. It is a story that will let you know how you should never do. Especially, if you want your fridge serve you for a good period of time.

The story below has happened with Sub Zero fridge of one of our client who we have been helping for the last 3 years. Let’s call him John.

Give your fridge some space

John gave us a call and asked if we could send someone asap as he has an emergency with his fridge. As usual we requested some information about what has happened in order to have some understanding of what our engineer should expect. He said that it just does not chill. What was interesting he gave us a new address, where we have never been.
When our engineer arrived, he realised that John has totally moved and now lives in another flat. The whole flat was full of different staff and apparently it was even smaller when the previous one. Approaching the fridge engineer realised that the fridge is surrounded with so many things and said straight away that they all have to be moved away as they cover it too close.
While John was moving boxes and other things around the engineer opened the door and so even more horrible situation. The fridge was also overloaded from inside, moreover it was smelling so bad, so it had to be cleaned first.

Service LE Company provided

Obviously, our engineer did not leave because of the smell. He helped John to remove all the food, cleaned the internal and external fans, checked the pcb and started the fridge again. There were some issues with the starting it again, as the fridge was in such a bad condition for the last week. Eventually, the fridge was brought to the good condition and now serves John as usual.

Give us a call if you need to repair your sub zero fridge in London or anywhere around.

What to do to keep your fridge being well

Here are three main rules we always ask our customers to follow:

  • Keep the space inside and outside the fridge
  • Place the fridge at lease 1.5 meters away from the oven
  • Clean it at least ones in 3 months

The proper functioning of a commercial boiler-based heating system is of great importance for your business. First, it ensures a smooth flow of your business in terms of the services you provide for your customers or the goods you manufacture. At last, it provides compliance with Workplace Health Safety and Welfare Regulation regarding the employee thermal comfort provision.
In winter, when the temperature goes low, a heating system endures the highest load. That is why, according to statistics, the greatest number of its failures occur right during winter months.
With London Engineers Company, you can rest assured your heating system will not disrupt your business this winter.

If you plan to replace an old boiler

If you plan boiler replacement, it is high time to do it right now. Do not wait till a boiler breaks down completely and your business stops because of this emergency. It is very likely the failure happens during the coldest months and will put your business activities in danger.
Thus, planned boiler replacement is always better than an emergency. First, unexpected downtime is always longer than a scheduled one. To clarify, it may even result in a major profit loss for your business. Besides, emergency call-outs are always more expensive than when you book them in advance.

So, contact us and schedule boiler replacement before the winter strikes.

If you need to service your commercial boiler

At London Engineers Company, we provide regular check and maintenance services. Our engineers also repair commercial gas boilers, therefore, if you need to service your commercial boiler and prepare it for the coming winter, we are always at your hand. Kitchen appliances service

Kitchen appliances are what you use every day. Your coffee machine, which delights you with a cup of favoured coffee at least every morning. A stove, which helps you cook tasty dinner. A dishwasher, which works hard to clean your utensils. Moreover, some of them (yes, we mean your fridges and freezers) have to work within a 24/7 schedule to keep your food fresh and your drinks cool.
In other words, the modern life greatly depends on all these units. That’s why you buy the most reliable brands. And that’s why you call us to provide your kitchen equipment with top-notch maintenance and repair.

We provide really dedicated services

Experience, attention to detail, and great care are the essentials required for undertaking quality repairs and thorough maintenance. Especially, if you need La Cornue repair service. Here, not a single mistake and not even slight negligence during its servicing is allowable. To clarify, this is one of the most expensive luxury kitchens and its repair requires only originated spare parts, which are very expensive. Moreover, as all the spare parts for La Cornue have to be ordered from the manufacturer, the delivery may take two weeks and even more. Therefore, we have no room for errors.
But, of course, La Cornue kitchens are only a good example to show you how much care we put into everything we do. Indeed, our engineers are highly skilled and committed to just one goal. And this goal is to help your kitchen appliance live a long life and be up and running in no time in case of its breakage.
The tasks we handle vary from regular maintenance to deep cleaning, from minor spare part replacement to major repairs. Besides, we strive to complete every task quickly, efficiently, and with minimal disruption of your schedule.
